Naamsverandering Abram en Sara

Bericht door helma »

Vanmorgen las ik dit:

"You may notice that God basically adds an “h” to their names, changing Abram’s name to Abraham and Sarai’s name to Sarah. In Hebrew, the term for Spirit is ruach, a word pronounced in such a way as to emphasize the “h” sound. In fact, the word is what we would call onomatopoeic— it sounds like something in nature sounds. In this case, ruach means wind or spirit and sounds like the wind. Later, in John 3: 8 Jesus will make this analogy of the wind to the Spirit of God: “The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” The added “h” to Abram’s and Sarai’s names exemplifies a breathing into them of the Spirit of God. The child of promise, Isaac, is a child of the Spirit, picturing our Lord Jesus." (Uit: 101 portraits of Jesus in the Hebrew scriptures)

helma schreef:In Hebrew, the term for Spirit is ruach, a word pronounced in such a way as to emphasize the “h” sound.

Abram (Av Ram) betekent: verheven vader
